Awards
Awards outline the rights and obligations of employers and the legally binding
minimum wage rates and employment conditions for employees. In the ACT, NT and
Victoria, federal awards apply. In the other states, employers and employees can be
covered by either a federal or state award, sometimes both.

Australian Government Consultation
Consultation on Home–Bases Businesses
The Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources (DITR) provides information on
past, current and proposed federal government sponsored initiatives relating to
consultation on issues affecting the home-based business sector. A series of home
based seminars were held around Australia in 2003 and 2004, culminating in the
National Home-Based Summit in April 004. Outcomes of all seminars and the Summit are available from the DITR website.

Are you Carrying on a Business?
To be able to claim business deductions you must be carrying on a business. If you
aren't carrying on a business, your activities may in fact be a hobby.
Apply for you ABN, GST, TFN
You can apply for your ABN and register for GST, TFN and PAYG through the
Business Entry Point's ABRpublic site. If all necessary information has been provided
in the application process, you will receive your ABN during the same internet
session at the end of the registration process. Written notification of the ABN and any
associated registration applications (eg GST) will also be mailed to you within 28
days of receipt by the ATO.

Australian Business Register (ABR)
The ABR is the central collection, storage and verification system for basic business
identity information from all entities with an Australian Business Number (ABN).
ABRpublic is an online database that contains the publicly available information
provided by businesses when they register for an ABN. It is a convenient way for you
to access a partial version of the ABR.

should know about, especially the rules for what you can claim.
